Change your perspective

Sometimes, we are simply too close to the opportunity or problem to see the bigger picture. I try and remind myself of this every time things aren’t clear yet. God doesn’t require my understanding, he just requires my trust. If you are facing something, a problem, pain, tragedy, a big decision, pull yourself back a bit. I know this is hard because it’s not natural, to be honest we are too attached to how we “feel’ sometimes and our senses, our feelings, emotions can make things unclear.

One thing I try to keep in front of me is God is sovereign. I mean, God is never unaware of the things I go through in life, he knew I’d face them, he is with me when I am facing them and he’ll help me through what ever I am facing. As I read stories of biblical figures, great people of the faith, they all, always trusted God. Think of Joseph in Genesis, that guy was called by God but went through a lot of things, we would defer to as, bad luck. He was betrayed by his brothers, thrown in a pit after almost getting killed, he was sold into slavery, he was promoted, thrown into Jail, accused of rape before finally putting it all together. The bible says something quick to over look…

The LORD was with Joseph, so he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master. Potiphar noticed this and realized that the LORD was with Joseph, giving him success in everything he did” (Genesis 39-2,3)

Did you catch it? The LORD was with Joseph! Imagine being thrown in Jail but understanding, the LORD is with you. Imagine getting laid off but understanding, the LORD is with you. Imagine tragedy, pain, trials…but understanding, the LORD is with you. Yyu see, it’s not what we go through that qualifies God, God is God regardless of our circumstances and what’s even better is that he PROMISES to always be with us. This positive perspective, this positive and powerful way of viewing life, this simple change in perspective makes all the difference.

What does your FB page say?

I use both Twitter and Facebook weekly, actually I have my twitter account linked to Facebook. When I started using them, I must admit, I really didn’t understand the impact I was having through them. Here is what I mean, I was a child of God, placed in a position of influence, or you could say leadership, yet when ever I tweeted or posted, I thought I was randomly just sharing my thoughts into the air. Well, turns out that was the exact problem, I was randomly expressing my thoughts into the web-air without realizing the impact I was having. One day, a leader sat me down and encouraged me with how much the Lord has gifted me, blessed me, allowed me to do….then he said these words..” someone who does not know, and then does something wrong, will be punished only lightly. When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required” (Luke 12:48)

Until that moment, that passage, I thought was only for rich people. How ignorant of me. First of all, to think I am not rich is really ignorant, as if a third of the people on this planet have more than me. Yeah, exactly. I thought I didn’t have a voice, or that responsibility didn’t apply to me, from that day on, I thought hard about what I wanted to communicate through social media. I devoted myself to revisit my legacy, my testimony, what the world would be able to read about my life, without words. When a person visits my page, what do they learn about my life?

I have found it strangely confusing to see so many people, that when you visit their facebook page, from an outside view, you’d be left to ask some questions. Romans 12:2 says..”Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.” When we share nasty language, post negative statements, share pictures that promote drinking, parties, dancing and…ugh… vulgor pictures people take of their bodies and post them for the whole world to see. Do we think nobody is looking? Maybe we’ve been drawn into the wrong world view. I am not being a hypocrate here, I am not a legalist either, I am simply asking the question, what are we choosing to share with the world and those around us? Jesus didn’t have a problem with drinks or parties, in fact he he attended parties and could have changed the water into Apple Juice but he knew what was appropriate, BUT still he remained Jesus, the begotten son of God, he maintained his character and integrity without trading it in for some good times. Does that make sense? So, please don’t think I am saying don’t do this or that, I am saying, we are saved, by grace, THAT is supposed to be our testimony in everything we do or everywhere we choose to go.

Revelation 11:17 speaks loudly to me these days “And the dragon was angry at the woman and declared war against the rest of her children—all who keep God’s commandments and maintain their testimony for Jesus.”

Do you think your FB page is an example your testimony?
